Beneath the Bantu Authorities Act of 1951, the Transkei grew to become, in 1959, the very first area to be proven to be a Territorial Authority; and in 1963 it became the 1st Bantustan to be granted 'self-govt'. The region was divided into a few physically seperate regions and took up a
